Unusual Tornados Kill 12, Injure Hundreds in China

(WP) According to an article from The Guardian, back to back tornadoes ripped through the city of Wuhan, in the Hubei province, and Shengze, in the Jiangsu province, in China last Friday. Extensive damage was done to factories, electric facilities, construction sites and homes.
Time reported that the twin tornados killed twelve people and injured more than 300. While the Jiangsu province is prone to tornados in late spring and early summer, the Wuhan area is not. Twenty-seven houses were completely toppled by the Wuhan storm, and at least 130 more sustained damage.
The surprise of one Wuhan resident was captured on China's Weibo app:
"I've grown up in Wuhan and I've never seen anything like it. There's been so much extreme weather recently."
Wuhan became a household name in 2020 amid rumors that the COVID-19 virus might have originated from either a lab or a wet market in that area.
Chinese officials expect extreme weather to happen more frequently in coming years due to the impact of global climate change.
