Cultured Meat Expected to Be Successful According to Survey

(WP) Future Meat Technologies recently published a press release announcing that over a third of US consumers say they will adopt cultured meat when launched by the company in the near future. Cultured meat is sometimes referred to as 'cultivated meat', 'cell-based meat,' or 'cell cultured meat.'
According to culturedbeef.org, cultured beef "is created by painlessly harvesting muscle cells from a living cow." The cells are fed and nurtured in a lab setting to create the muscle tissue making up the main component of the meat humans consume. Scientists claim that cultured meat is biologically the same as the meat tissue of an actual cow.
The goal of cultured meat producers is to reduce the space required by current livestock farming methods. Reducing this space is believed to have a positive impact on lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
As reported in the press release, Future Meat partnered with a third party firm in July of 2021 to survey just over two thousand American consumers to gauge awareness and preferences around cultured meat. Results support Future Meat's efforts in brining this new option to market. More than one third of the US consumers surveyed said that they plan to adopt cultured meat into their diet when it becomes available.
"Consumers appreciate great food, but they also believe science is key to advancing environmental and animal welfare issues. With over 50% of consumers already changing how they eat to have a more conscious diet, we know this is not lip service – the potential is there," said Liat Kaplan, vice president of marketing and growth at Future Meat Technologies.
Future Meat Technologies is headquartered in Rehovot, Israel. They are engaged in "developing a distributive platform for the cost-efficient, GMO-free production of meat directly from animal cells, without the need to raise or harvest animals."
