Airport Security is About to Change

(WatchPost): A recent write-up posted on the CBN News website reveals what's in store for airport passengers in the near future as security technology gets an upgrade.

The article reveals that the scanners now in use, those that require you to stand in a tunnel-like structure with arms above the head) are about to be replaced with something called a Hexwave. Current scanners use millimeter wave technology to scan people for hidden weapons. According to the CBN News article, these portals were originally developed for use in the apparel industry.

The new Hexwave system "uses radio frequency and real time 3- video-rate imaging" along with artificial intelligence (AI) to scan passengers for security purposes. Hexwave technology will not require you to remove your personal items (keys, wallets, phones, etc.) because it has the ability to detect non-metallic threats.

While this scanning tech is a few years away, the Hexwave system will soon be deployed to screen aviation workers who access secure areas of the airport. After that, the goal is for it to be used at all security checkpoints, allowing travelers to pass through without breaking stride.

This new technology is just another example of ways in which AI has begun to touch more and more areas of our lives. The goal is to make life easier, safer, more secure. But as usual, developers and proponents don't discuss potential malfunctions or dangers with the public when technologies like these are released.
